Salsa Journeyman Claris
You can explore almost any trail with the Salsa Journeyman Claris. It’s also an ideal commuter bike. The 700c wheels can handle rough and paved trails without any problems.
If you want to go off-trail, simply switch the wheels out for a set of 650b. The Claris is designed for either size wheel so you’re never limited to where you can go with this bike.
The lightweight aluminum frame is sturdy enough to handle bumpy trails. The frame is also designed to hold all your gear. Whether you’re only going on a short excursion or planning to camp overnight, you can easily carry all your essentials. There are mounts for rear and front racks, along with ones designed to hold a tube-style bag.
There are even mounts on the fork where you can attach Salsa’s convenient cages that are perfect for storing water bottles and other often-used items. The Salsa Journeyman Claris also comes with mounts for front and rear fenders to prevent dirt, mud, and water from splashing onto all your gear.
The Journeyman Claris is surprisingly affordable considering its’ performance capabilities. Whether you’re riding the bike to work, on paved roads or rough gravel trails, you won’t have a problem with its’ performance.
It comes with the Shimano 8-speed rear derailleur, along with an FSA Tempo Adventure 40/32t chainring crankset. With only 8 cogs, it does have some larger jumps through the 11 to 34t cassette, but even if you’re carrying a lot of gear it shouldn’t cause you to overexert yourself.
You won’t have any problem stopping, even when you’re flying downhill. The Claris boasts Promax DSK-330R disc brakes. The handlebar is designed with the rider’s comfort in mind. The shallow-drop Cowbell handlebar helps keep you in a comfortable position regardless if you’re biking uphill or coasting down. You’ll also appreciate how easy it is to switch out tires to match the terrain.
Thanks to the wide tire clearance you can use the included 700 x 37mm tires to get plenty of traction on gravel and dirt trails. The impressive clearance is wide enough to switch out to larger 700 x 50mm wheels for even more traction and stability.
Want to go mountain biking? It’s not a problem. Just put on 2.2″ tires after switching to smaller 650b wheels. The Journeyman Claris will take you wherever you want to go.
